Today we went ice skating. Today we did not enjoy ice skating. Even with the dislike of the ice, which was both on my part and Brody's, it was a fun day out with friends...and we got some cute photos!

Crafty Christmas?

I used to be crafty...I used to hot glue the h - e - double hockey sticks out of stuff. I had some success this Halloween with some craft projects...but at some point between stuffing our faces with candy from strangers and decking the halls, I lost all my crafty genes. I had visions of hand made gifts for all the teachers at Brody's school. Glass snowman ornaments. The website I saw them on made it seem so easy....

...at least four trips to Michael's....

...more money than anyone should spend on such a silly project...
and glitter on everything we own...

...lots of aspirin...and some wine, along with a complete revamp of the original idea..not to mention the chop sticks, cookie cooler trays, and funnels I ruined (don't ask). Oh and did I mention I used about 82 dixie cups....

....this is all I got.

I'm a litte embarrassed with this project, but I plan to walk in proudly with my creations and pass them out to all 16 teachers and say that Brody helped me make them...even if that is not entirely accurate.

I spent a great morning yesterday taking photos of my awesome friend Amy's family. They are a really great group of people. I am happy to know them all now and call them all a friend!

I took Brody to the park a few weeks ago for his holiday photo shoot. Now when we ask him if he wants to go to the park he asks if he can play at the park or is he going to have to take pictures! Poor kid! One of my favorite shots below! We are off to see Santa today!

Meet Steve...our latest addition to the family. Our housekeeper gave Brody a Betta tank as a gift so Steve was hand selected by Mr. B. If you look close you will see, Steve is a unique color and will likely be hard to 'replace' in two weeks or so.... Busy busy Saturday for us. We had soccer in the morning and then celebrated Brody's 4th birthday with a small party. Brody had a great time and is currently in toy overload!

After a nap, we headed out for some trick or treating...grabbed a hot dog from the neighbors who always have hot dogs as their treat and grabbed all the candy the bucket would hold. After about two hours, Brody declared he was tired of Halloween!

We are heading to Disney tomorrow to continue the birthday celebration! Brody is so excited to see Mickey!

Fun with Elmo! That's what we had today. Ann-Marie and Cooper came over and we celebrated Cooper's 2nd B-day by going to see Elmo at the UCF arena. Fun was had by all and when the show was over, Brody entertained Ann-Marie and Cooper by wearing all, and I do mean ALL, of his Halloween costumes from years gone by. We had to pry him out of the sweaty monkey costume. Cooper wanted no part of it, but we tried...he was the Count only for a moment!! Vacation!

We are on vacation this week and spent a few nights at the Gaylord Palms. Really cool hotel, but not that much to do to entertain the little one. Interestingly, he had the most fun playing with the bar of soap in the bathroom sink. He asked to wash his hands constantly! He also enjoyed the octopus waterslide...until he fell while running to get back in line....all the while we were screaming "no running" in true parenting style! We are home today and then heading over to Ron Jon Resort for a couple of nights starting tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendation Amy! We also hope to hook up with Ann-Marie, Rob and little Cooper while we are over that way as well! Here's to vacation!

Brody started swim lessons this week and is doing great! It is amazing to watch the transition from only being in the water with the floaties to doing the spiderman walk along the side of the pool and just jumping in from where ever! Also, of special note, apparently, if you hold the title of "teacher" Brody pays extra close attention and listens to what you have to say. We will now go by Teacher Mom and Teacher Dad.

Week Two

Well this week was a bit better with soccer. We had a very rough start, but eventually Brody made it out on the field for a short time during the game. If you look closely at the first picture, Brody was the start kicker for the period and has the same Rockette kick...but at least he hit the ball and not someone's nose! We have two really good players on our team...two girls that must be all of 5...I think they scored all 9 of our goals between the two of them! Go Hawkeyes!

Brody had his first soccer game today. It was more like a soccer sit out as he wanted absolutely NO part of it. He was on the field for less than five minutes "practicing" and in that time I captured three shots .... all of which have him looking more like a Rockette than Beckham. Today was Brody's first day of soccer practice/registration. I forgot my camera...dang it. Then we went bowling...didn't bring my camera then either. The boys played basketball with a bit of football mixed in at time this afternoon and I'm pretty sure Brody swung the golf club a few times today as well. It's been an all sports kind of today. We also did some serious puddle jumping which is certain to be the next big thing! Check out the mad skills!

I attended a baby shower today where one of the games played was guessing what candy bar was inside of a diaper...yeah, heated up chocolate bars inside of a diaper (insert gross visual here; yes, the visual you are imagining...). I found the entire experience a bit disturbing, yet was upset when I only got four out of five correct. Clearly, I don't eat enough chocolate...oh, wait no, that's an inaccurate statement. I have no excuse for not properly identifying all five of the messy, and I mean messy, diaper contents! I missed the Snickers bar...I think I put that it was a Milky Way...that doesn't even make sense...there are no peanuts in a Milky Way. Some people even went so far as to taste the diaper contents and while they might have gotten all five correct...the whole concept was just gross....is it just me?!

Celebration

A wonderful celebration of Hope's life was held today at the same church were Hope and Jake were wed almost 12 years ago. The church is rather small and today it overflowed with loved ones and friends who came to say their final good-byes and pay tribute to the beautiful Hope. As Ann-Marie so eloquently put it, Hope never wanted to be the center of attention and fate had another thing in mind for Hope. She touched so many people in her short life...some of the people Hope likely does not even know that she touched, but she did. During the service, Hope's brother, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, father, and Jake spoke so thoughtfully and emotionally. It was a lovely and touching tribute to a woman who was so much more than a wife, mom, sister, daughter, and friend. As several people stated, Hope was their hero.

I was especially touched by the words from Ann-Marie. Ann-Marie is one of Hope's best friends and was there for Hope during the toughest of times. The words that came from Ann-Marie's mouth today were so loving and touching and brought on laughs and tears from the audience. I was so touched by her words. It honestly made me reflect on our wonderful relationship and I feel so honored and blessed to also call Ann-Marie one of my best friends. I know Jake and the boys and Hope herself, are so happy that you are a part of their lives as well. Thank you Ann-Marie (Ann, Marie, Ann-hyphen-Marie....) for who you are and all that you do.

Here's to Hope who most definitely is looking down on all of us from her new perch high above.

We enjoyed a nice visit with Michelle and her youngest boy yesterday! Michelle and I go way back to the days of high school and even though we don't see each other very often, it seems like no time has lapsed when we do get together. High School was tough for both of us because we were transfer students from other states. Fortunately somehow or the other, our parents bought homes on the same street and Michelle saw my sorry butt standing at the bus stop every day and offered to drive me to school. We have been friends since. I love you Michelle and treasure our friendship!

The boys had a great time too and before the visit was over they were both running around like chickens with their heads cut off!

Yaya and Papa Jim came for a visit yesterday to watch the Alabama/Florida game....at least it wasn't a blow out. A good time was had by all even with the disappointing final score.

We had a nICE afternoon with Nana, Pop Pop and Aunt Bobby today visiting ICE at the Gaylord Palms Resort. It was brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...........cold and we turned pink according to Brody! Brody was a trooper and stood in line to go down the ice slide with Mommy and then sang Row Row Row Your Boat on his way down. It only slightly held up the line! The pictures are a bit blurry but that is what happens when technology meets 9 degrees! brrrrr.....! :)
